These existing biases and tendencies can affect both the development and outcomes of AI systems, and thus ultimately also those affected. AI systems must be designed, developed, implemented, and used in a way that promotes and protects fairness by respecting all forms of diversity and making all reasonable efforts to prevent discrimination or bias. Particular care is required where there is a risk of unfair treatment of minorities.
